It features a diverse collection of plants from the American Southwest and around the world, including a 10,000-square-foot glass conservatory. The garden's design was recognized with the 2019 Architecture + Community Award by the New Mexico Architectural Foundation.

History & Heritage

The ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden opened to the public on December 5, 1996. It was established as part of the Albuquerque Biological Park environmental museum complex. Over the years, it has grown to encompass 36 acres of exhibits, including the addition of the Sasebo Japanese Garden and the Heritage Farm. The garden continues to expand its collections and conservation efforts, working with partners to establish ex situ populations of threatened native plants.

Signature Feature

Glass Conservatory

The 10,000-square-foot glass conservatory is a centerpiece of the garden, divided into two distinct wings. One wing houses plants native to Mediterranean climate zones such as Spain, South Africa, and Australia, while the second wing features xeric plants from North American deserts. This dual-climate environment allows visitors to experience a wide variety of arid-adapted flora year-round.
