About South Carolina Botanical Garden

The South Carolina Botanical Garden is a 295-acre preserve located on the campus of Clemson University. It features natural landscapes, display gardens, miles of streams and nature trails, and the Bob Campbell Geology Museum. The garden is open to the public every day of the week from dawn to dusk.

History & Heritage

The garden began in 1958 as a camellia preserve on a small parcel of land adjacent to the Clemson University campus. It was officially dedicated as the South Carolina Botanical Garden in 1992. Over the decades, it has evolved into an extensive sanctuary featuring historic structures like the early 18th-century Hanover House and the Hunt Log Cabin.

Signature Feature

Nature-based Sculptures

The garden features one of the largest collections of nature-based sculptures in the country. These extended-ephemeral pieces were designed on-site by international artists and built by local volunteers. Upon completion, the pieces begin to return to nature, creating an ever-changing landscape.
