Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is a horticultural and educational institution located in Columbus, Ohio. It showcases exotic plant collections across various biomes, including the Himalayan Mountains, Tropical Rainforest, and Desert. The conservatory is renowned for its signature collection of Dale Chihuly glass artworks and its seasonal Blooms & Butterflies exhibition.
The conservatory was built in 1895, modeled after the Glass Palace of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. In 1974, the original glass structure, known as the Palm House, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The facility underwent a major expansion in 1992 when Columbus hosted AmeriFlora '92, adding 58,000 square feet of new spaces.
Signature Feature
The John F. Wolfe Palm House is the original 1895 glass structure built in the grand Victorian style. It features more than 40 species of palms and is illuminated by a permanent light installation by contemporary artist James Turrell. The Palm House remains a historic centerpiece and a popular venue for events.
