About University of Vermont Horticulture Research and Education Center
The UVM Horticulture Research and Education Center serves as the primary field laboratory for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. It features extensive collections of mature ornamental plants, including over 100 varieties of lilacs, as well as rhododendrons and conifers. The farm also hosts the Catamount Educational Farm, which models sustainable fruit and vegetable production.
History & Heritage
The property was purchased by the University of Vermont in the early 1950s to serve as a research and education facility. In 1994, when the farm faced potential sale for development, the Friends of the Horticulture Farm was established to protect and maintain its significant plant collections. Over the past 70 years, it has evolved into a vital center for agronomic research and community horticulture education.

The farm boasts a renowned collection of over 100 varieties of lilacs, which are celebrated annually during the Bloom Time Festival.
