The gardens are free and open to the public every day of the year, serving as a cherished place of respite and inspiration.

History & Heritage

The origins of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens date back to 1960, with the park officially opening to the public in 1962. It was established on a portion of the 200-acre Lane Park, named after former Birmingham mayor Alexander Oscar Lane. The garden's clear-span conservatory was the largest of its kind in the Southeast when it opened in 1963.
