About Bok Tower Gardens
Bok Tower Gardens is a 250-acre contemplative garden and bird sanctuary located atop Iron Mountain in Lake Wales, Florida. Designed by the renowned Olmsted firm, the landscape offers a serene environment with lush plantings and winding pathways. The centerpiece is the majestic 205-foot Singing Tower, which houses a 60-bell carillon.
History & Heritage
The gardens were founded in 1929 by Edward W. Bok, a Dutch immigrant and successful publisher, who wanted to create a sanctuary to protect the land from development. He commissioned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. to design the gardens and architect Milton B. Medary to design the Singing Tower. The site was dedicated by President Calvin Coolidge and has since welcomed millions of visitors.
Signature Feature
The Singing Tower
The Singing Tower is a 205-foot neo-Gothic and art deco carillon tower built from coquina stone and pink marble. It houses a 60-bell carillon that is played daily, filling the gardens with music. The tower is surrounded by a moat and features intricate tile work and sculptures.
